London Design Week : A round up

London Design Week; the epitome of the phrase 'so much to see, so little time'.

The Indie & Co. team headed to Design Junction, which has always been my favourite place in London Design Week. The brands on show are innovative, on-trend and high quality - providing the perfect inspiration for projects I'm working on at the moment.

Design Junction is located on Granary Square near Kings Cross, which was a great place to hang out for the day with the Indie & Co. team.

I enjoyed seeing the show from an audience perspective after having exhibited there myself when working at Pinch, Decorex and Clerkenwell. Here are a few of my favourite stands from the day:

1. Bethan Gray for Mohamad Reza Shamsian

The collaboration between Iranian artist Mohamad Reza Shamsian and Welsh designer Bethan Gray was stunning and elegant, and successfully brought together eastern and western styles.

Gray gains her inspiration through travel; her latest collection draws on her appreciation of the graphic nature of Islamic art.  Shamsian provided the perfect partner to collaborate after having spent over 30 years focusing on Islamic art in Muscat, Oman.

Showcased was a new sideboard, featuring marquetry and solid brass inlay, available in 4 different shades:

2. Olivia Aspinal Studio

Olivia Aspinal is an independent designer creating standardised hand crafted surfaces.  After graduating from Central St Martins, Olivia set up a design studio and with help from a Kickstarter fund displayed her latest collection at Design Junction.  We were excited as soon as we saw Olivia's collection - she's definitely one to watch.

The surfaces displayed on the stand were stunning, and  had me wondering where I could use her materials in future projects.
